Hello there!
I'm here with a late-night doodle in UE5.
During an amazing ride through the snowy mountains here in Italy, I stumbled upon this incredible shack that immediately caught my attention.
Since I had my DJI Mini with me, I couldn't resist—so we stopped to take a bunch of shots to process later in Reality Capture.
The weather was overcast—not a cool day to ride, but the perfect time to scan! 😃
I took a couple of manual spiral shots of the shack, and then we were back on our bikes.
Back home, it was time to get to work:
-I processed the scan in Reality Capture, and it turned out really well for what I had in mind.
-I used Gaea to quickly generate a background mesh for my scene in UE5.
-I created a quick landscape material, experimenting with Nanite tessellation for the snow in the foreground.
-I also made a material function that blends materials based on camera distance to avoid ugly tiling issues on the landscape.
-I imported a bunch of VDBs for the clouds, which blew me away! (First time using VDBs in UE—super cool stuff, I really need to dig deeper into it.)
-I set up a Sequencer for the shots.
-I did some post-processing in Unreal and color grading in DaVinci Resolve.
And that's it! Hope you find it interesting! 😊
Cheers!
